Over 3000 schools in 15 countries including Singapore have chosen Elevate Education to run their study skills programmes for one key reason: each programme actually works! Elevate’s study skills workshops and seminars are designed to achieve behavioural change amongst students. It isn’t enough that students simply understand what they need to do in their study. Elevate gets students using the skills from its seminars and workshops through a fresh approach to study skills...

Q: How long have you been a presenter for?

A: I have been a presenter for 3 years.

Q: What made you want to be a presenter?

A: Having been a tutor for over 5 years, I’ve seen hundreds of students struggle to understand the knowledge given to them in school, simply because they don’t know how to study. I joined Elevate to helps students realise that with the right study strategies and techniques, it is actually possible for them to get outstanding results. Nothing beats the rush of having students leave a workshop motivated, excited and confident that they can overcome the challenges that school brings.

Q: What is your favourite Elevate seminar?

A: My favourite seminar would have to be Time Management. In my experience this is one thing students always find difficult; there is so much work and so little time! Students always seem to laugh when I speak about my own experiences with procrastination and leave the workshop not only understanding why we get distracted, but how to actually overcome procrastination.

Q: What's a memorable experience you had from presenting in a school?

A: I will always remember the time when a student was disrupting the rest of the class and wasn’t paying attention. I ended up getting him involved through one of our interactions. After that, he was so focused and even asked questions for the rest of the session. He came up to me and said “I really didn’t want to come to this initially because I thought it would be boring and a waste of time, but now I’m glad I came. I know exactly how to study and feel motivated to try some of these tips”. It’s moments like this that show me why I love my job.

Q: How long have you been a presenter for?

A: I have been presenting now for over 12 months.

Q: What made you want to be a presenter?

A: I studied a masters of teaching at University, so working with young people and being immersed in education was a natural next step. I think the most valuable thing about being a presenter is seeing the immediate impact that you're able to have on students' education. I wish I had Elevate at my school when I was studying! I remember the stress and feelings of overwhelm that arise when you're faced with a high workload and lots of expectations on yourself. Having someone come in and clarify everything, and just give you a path can be really helpful. So being part of that process is really rewarding.

Q: What is your favourite Elevate seminar?

A: My favourite seminar would have to be Memory and Mnemonics. Once again, I just know that this would have been incredibly valuable for me when I was a student. The tips are so practical and are immediately relevant to exam and the entire studying process. I love how the seminar is interactive and really shows students how easy it is to memorise when you have the right techniques in place!

Q: What's a memorable experience you had from presenting in a school?

A: After a memory session I had a group of students come up to me and tell me that they were really struggling to prepare for tests because they were rote learning (reading information over and over). Once they saw the unique strategies from our memory seminar they were able to recognise that study didn't have to be boring and that it could actually be a lot of fun if you get creative! It's these experiences that make me realise how much students take from the sessions - that I'm making a difference. At the end of the day, that's what we're here to do!
